With a history dating back to the 1930's, Ray Ban sunglasses have dominated aviation for almost 60 years. After returning from an extended ballooning trip in 1937, Lieutenant John MacCready complained of permanent eye damage from the sun. The Anti-Glare, which had light weight gold platted frames, was a prototype. Soon the United States Army supplied their pilots with Ray Ban sunglasses. Now the Ray Ban design is evident in all styles of Ray Ban aviator sunglasses.
