Urban versus rural eyewear trends
Filed Under Designer Sunglasses, Eyewear Knowledge | View Comments
Few distinctions are more immediately apparent than the divide between urban and rural populations in terms of language, political and religious ideologies and fashion. In terms of eyewear trends, the divide is extremely vast. Take, for example, the urban love of Police sunglasses for men. Any man caught in these designer, mod trends in rural areas might be mocked. Meanwhile, your average Ray Ban Aviator in the countryside is extremely popular, but might be considered a bit low brow for London. Here is a bit of a guide to the eyewear most popular among different demographics in the UK.
In London, expect to see more brand names like Prada, Dior, Versace and Gucci among eyewear trends. These fashionable and yet safe designers offer everything from the extremely modern to the adorably chic. Surprisingly, black seems to be the color of choice with high end designer eyewear. You wont find much variation in color, and for women we’re looking at the traditional Jackie O style (bug-eyes) sunglasses while men favor the less obtuse square black frames with dark lenses.
In the suburbs, you can expect to see a bit of difference ranging from those who stick with city fashion to those who hit the Bolle and Serengeti trends, which include brown or tortoiseshell frames and conservatively tinted lenses. For some reason, suburbanites love gradient lenses, and more casual (meaning brown) frames and designs.
Past the suburbs you can expect a range from the wild and creative (attention-grabbing frames like Alexander McQueen) to the tried and true of Ray Bans. Whatever the rural trends, they are a far cry from the urban fan favorites, leaving many to ponder the divide between the rural and urban people of the UK.

Taking care of your contact lenses can seem a daunting task to many who have been avid eyeglasses wearers. These cleaning rituals are often cited as one of the primary reasons eyeglasses fans claim they don’t switch to contact lenses. We’re here to make life a bit easier for you, regardless of whether you choose eyeglasses or contacts. Here are a few helpful tips.
Eyeglasses. For regular eye and sunglasses you’ll want to soak your glasses overnight (unless they are one of the rare wooden-framed pairs) in a solution of water and soap. This should be done about once a month. This will break down the oil and grime left behind on the lenses from your skin. Secondly, you’ll want a daily routine for your eyeglasses that should include cleaning them at least once a day with spray solution and a microfiber cloth. If you purchase your eye or sunglasses through smart buy glasses, you’ll get a free lens cleaning kit that makes this process easy. Finally, for the best long-term health of your eyewear, you’ll want to carry a cloth with you and avoid cleaning your lenses on your shirt, as the rough fibers can etch into the glass or plastic of your lenses over time (or at least damage the lens coatings).
Contact lenses. A great routine for cleaning and caring for contact lenses includes simply soaking them overnight in solution and then swishing each contact in the palm of your hand with solution before inserting them and after removing them from your eyes. This routine takes less than five minutes a day, and will help maintain optimal eye health and prolong the life of your contact lenses.

Best Contact Lenses for Summer
Filed Under Brand Wave, Eyewear Knowledge | View Comments
Summer is a great s
eason for contact lenses. Springtime offers a bit of discomfort for those with allergies, but by summer the pollen count has decreased and the sun has risen to its yearly pinnacle and contact lens season is upon us. With great brands in the business like Acuvue, Bausch & Lomb and many more, the contact lens industry has reached new heights, but with so many options, how is one to know which brand would be best? Here’s a starter of information.
Acuvue – this company provides, quite possibly, one of the widest ranges of contact lenses. This means they specialize in everything. You can find contact bifocals, contacts for near or farsighted folks, colored contacts, astigmatism-correcting contact lenses as well as all of these in the soft or hard options, and in the 1 day versus reusable options. If you are just starting out wearing contacts and are not sure what to look for, this company is well trusted and has a good reputation for making a solid product.
Proclear – these contacts have special technology for folks with dry eyes. Dry eye is common with wearing contacts, and the Proclear name and brand is one of the few focused on this eye related issue.
Vertex – for athletes or other folks with a busy, active lifestyle Vertex might just be the perfect option for you. These disposable, lightweight and airy contacts give you a crisp and clean feeling, stay snugly in place without being abrasive, and last through most sporting events.

For summer, everyone dreams of having the perfect beach body in time to show it off on the first days of sun bathing glory and splashing fun. But, before the fun, here are a few tips to achieving a superb look for the summer sun.
1) Ray Bans. You’ll want to purchase a pair of wonderful Ray Bans for your time in the sun. If you wear prescription glasses, this may be the perfect time to get prescription sunnies. If you do, that will aid you in making sure you have them on whenever outside this summer. No one wants a wrinkled face, and protecting your eyes from strain and UV rays is the best way to avoid crows feet.
2) Sun screen. You’d be surprised how many people think they wont be able to tan unless they leave off the lather. What sun screen does, essentially, is block the harmful rays from the sun, thus making your skin look better for longer. Meanwhile, sun screen still allows you to tan in a healthy way, with an overall glow rather than a burn.
3) Pretty Feet. Women know how important good footwear is, and how hard it is to get a great combo of comfort and style. More than every, designers are focusing on accessories, so you should be able to find a designer pair of sandals (or at least a snazzy summer pair that look designer!) for an affordable price.
4) One piece. Believe it or not, the one piece swimsuit is back in style! With great new designs, this traditional suit is now the more creative and versatile option. Too many pretty girls think showing more skin means being more attractive—one piece suits do the opposite and firm a loose tummy or bum, and pull your parts into place to give an overall perfect image with just the right amount of skin.

When Male fashion Goes Awry

Robert Pattinson looks particularly ridiculous in these Ray Bans. Tsk, tsk. We would have thought he knew better than to dress like someone from the Geek Squad. They make his head look like it isn’t proportional, and the hat-glasses combo is a bit amateurish, even for him. We’d much rather see him in a more modern look, possibly Armani, that is also more adjusted to his age and stature. Additionally, his lighter hair could really use a dye job and we’d even go so far as to suggest a subtle goatee to really give him a more adult, more serious and edgy masculine look.
And another middle-aged man whose look could use some serious attention is the recent sell-out Luke Wilson, who spends his days doing cell phone ads instead of cinema. His recent weight gain and unflattering haircut leave many wondering if he has completely jumped off the deep end. And those sunglasses? Luke Wilson in these Carerra-like Von Zipper shades just makes himself look more contrived and fake than he normally comes across. While he had his heyday in films like Idiocracy and Old School, the poor man has hit Hollywood rock bottom, and his fashion is acting as tell-tale signs of a quick decent.
Russell Crowe in Bvlgari looks acceptable, especially with the new Robin Hood haircut. However, as this action star ages, we were hoping to see him keep some fragments of his youth with more lively fashion. Despite this, we like the look and would also recommend Serengeti for this Hollywood wonder.
