Sporty Sunglasses can be Sexy
Filed Under Uncategorized | View Comments
Most women wouldn’t want to be caught dead in sporty sunglasses. They make you look very 1980s, very unfashionable and very cheap. Why do sporty sunglasses make people think of noisy windbreakers and perspiration? Katy Perry showed up looking astonishing in a very strange fashion choice—Louis Vuitton’s Steven Sprouse tribute sunglasses (seen in image here). Released more than a year ago, the Sprouse sunglasses have not received a lot of fanfare, and for good reason. The neon nose and sidebars are a bit much for normal folks, and only someone as bold as Katy Perry can pull of a look so daring. But that isn’t to say that sporty eyewear can’t be sexy. Done right, they can offer an attractive alternative to the normally clunky non-active eyewear.
Oakley’s female collection has come a long way. No longer are women forced to wear neon colors and ridiculously masculine looking streamlined designs in order to have performance-enhancing sunglasses for all outdoor activities. While Oakley has worked on perfecting their fashion qualities, they are also improving in R&D for technological upgrades that continue to put Oakley sunglasses on any athlete’s dream wish list.
But for folks who want a bit more fashion then function, you might want to check out Bolle or Arnette sunglasses. They have a nice, snug athletic fit and yet nothing is compromised. They often lack that dull, black plastic look and feel that Oakleys and Nikes collections often characterize. Arnette is a bit more fashionable than Bolle, but the line has to be drawn somewhere for the perfect athletic eyewear that doesn’t sacrifice too much functionality and the winner just might be Bolle!

Fashion Inspired by the World Expo
Filed Under Blogroll, Brand Wave | View Comments
Modern fashion is something to be surprised by. While we expected 2010 to feature flying cars, interaction with aliens and everyone wearing skin-tight, vinyl jumpsuits that just isn’t the reality. We’re still wearing Ray Ban Aviators, we still drive Ford Automobiles run on oil, and we still have to walk rather than float from place to place. Essentially nearly every glimpse of the future provided by literature and film was wrong.
There is one area of global culture, however, that has continued to advance even while others have stagnated. Fashion, for example, has continued to expand and push the limits of design, as has architecture. We live in an age of experimentation on both creative fronts. The Shanghai World Expo is a great example of the innovation and creativity possible in architecture. And we can see fashion modeling itself after this forward-looking discipline. Ready-to-wear clothing at top stores like H&M are not only fashionable, but they defy the old idea that ready-to-wear clothing could not be fashionable as well as mass produced or accepted by western culture.
Design houses like Prada, Gucci, Versace and others are now reassessing the ready-to-wear markets and branching out. Even Wal-Mart in the USA has designers doing their $7 shirts. With the ready-to-wear market expanding, these designers are taking a page right out of the architecture book and making modern design, clean lines, infusions of shapes and colors and sheer creativity to the masses. You can expect more fashion reminiscent of the pavilions at the World Expo to appear in stores near you. Expect Asian influences, clean and fresh lines, huge statements done in unique ways, and accessories that are bolder than ever.

Top 5 Ways to Look More Hip
Filed Under Blogroll, Celebrities & Eyewear | View Comments
Spring is here! And what better time of year to reinvent yourself than when the plants and animals around you are doing likewise? This season, looking hip and cool may be the focus rather than youthfulness. This is a bit harder to achieve than youth, because being a hipster is a lifestyle choice, and involves small choices on a day-to-day basis.
First thing to tackle is the wardrobe. Through out your high-brow eyewear and slip on a pair of Ray Bans, or else a lesser known brand with all the street cred, like Alexander MacQueen or Smith. You’ll want to start shopping at thrift shops now. Try to find the most ripped up, low-rise jeans in the store, and grab a few used T-shirts as well. You can class this up by wearing designer, leather shoes and jacket, and doing your hair up 1920’s style. That’s how a hipster rolls.
The next thing to tackle is your diet. Hipsters are vegetarians. You’ll have to get rid of the meat for the season, and anyways killing animals for food is wrong—isn’t it?
Next its time for your attitude make over. Stop reading the papers, stop being informed, stop caring about politics, economics and health and focus 100% on environmental issues, celebrity news and random tid-bits of information also known as useless trivia.
Fourth, lets tackle your mode of transportation. Stop driving and only use public transport. You can use the tube, or else hop on a rickety bicycle and peddle yourself from A to B. To look fashionable while doing so, you’ll want to find a cool, retro helmet and biker’s gloves. Don’t forget to tuck your jeans into your socks.
Five- You can look the look, now talk the talk! Good luck, hipster!

London’s High Fashion
Filed Under Brand Wave, Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
If you have ever wondered where the most modern, high-fashion looks on the planet are then look no further than the United Kingdom. With some of the world’s finest designers in country, like Burberry (or a short flight away in Milan or Paris) the streets are teeming with well dressed fashionable men and women who in any other country could pass for people in-the-know, fashionable speaking. Yet the UK hardly gets the attention it deserves as a fashion capital, this is probably because of the stereotype of Londoners as politically and economically focused, if not a bit antiquated and quaint. Nevertheless, some key designers have come out of the UK, and London’s underground has to carry some of the best dressed commuters on earth.
Some British designers who have helped the modern London high-fashion craze are Alexander McQueen, for one, who helped bring the country up to date by inventing the hipster (low ride) jean, as well as reinventing the way shoes make a woman’s foot look. McQueen, although recently deceased, was probably Britain’s greatest fashion inventor since Burberry. The distinct pattern Burberry has made famous is a flashback to a simpler time, a time when the sun never set on their empire, and when flannel patterns were hip and cool. The look dates back to 1856, when a former draper’s apprentice had the idea to slap flannel and high fashion into one magnificent combo. I guess it worked! While Burberry did its best to make flannel fashionable in the 1850s, McQueen is doing likewise in the 21st century.
