What Hollywood’s Men are Wearing
Filed Under Brand Wave, Celebrities & Eyewear, Eyewear Knowledge, Designer Sunglasses | 1 Comment
What good would a fashion review of Hollywood be only one gendered? In tandem with the article on what women in Hollywood are wearing, he is an update on what’s hot for Hollywood’s men. The consensus, as dictated by the stars, is that D&G as well as Tom Fords have risen in popularity of late.
Brad Pitt, the heartbreaker of the 21st Century, was photographed last week in Dolce and Gabbana 2064 Aviators after an embarrassing incident where his motorbike broke down and he was forced to hitch a ride with one of the paparazzi following him. Though he is a fashion icon, Brad Pitt is known for the casual way he manages to start new trends. Naturally, anything looks nice on Brad Pitt, and the D&G aviators are no exception.
Another heartbreak, Johnny Depp, was photographed late June in Tom Ford Max Blacks, a small, circular lens with minimalist frames that give Depp the intelligent look of a retro sexy scientist. This man of mystery has every heart in the western world swooning. He is so fond of Tom Ford’s accessories; he donned an entire Tom Ford suit for the recent premier of Public Enemies.
Peter Andre, an icon in his own right, chose a surprisingly risky sunglasses look in the Dolce and Gabanna 6033 sunglass model in Red, which look amazing on his physique, despite the obvious strain of his recent separation with Jordan. This is the second big D&G splash in the men’s Hollywood accessory saga in recent weeks, marking the brand as a rising star among confident, sexy men.

When it comes to emulating someone for fashion, Hollywood is the best place to look for tips on coming trends and lasting fashion. For instance, to know that Chanel is surpassing Dior as the go-to shade for Hollywood elites takes a fashion-forward mindset few are willing to commit the time to. Lucky for you that we’re around to disseminate that information. Here is what the best and brightest in Hollywood are wearing this summer.
Eva Longoria is rocking Chanel, though a former Dior diehard, she is bringing new weight to the look with her Latin-American charm. The Chanel look, which used to attract mostly upper-class women as a proper diplomatic style, has branched out recently to include a whole new demographic of sexy women, including a diverse range of ethnicities and backgrounds. For a design once known only to a select few, the brand has proven its worth by expanding into new markets. Chanel is expected to be big this Fall as a comeback kid.
The Louis Vuitton Millionaire style is in high demand in Hollywood, with stars going so far as to acquire the rare shades and plan their wardrobe around the shades. Paris Hilton, Amber Rose and Rihanna are pictured here wearing the much coveted shades. Louis Vuitton’s Evidence style, more popular with men, has exploded on the fashion scene recently with stars like P Diddy, Ludacris and Sean Kingston cashing in on the stylish, gold-studded look.
Oliver Peoples sunglasses are making waves with the likes of Vanessa Minnillo and Nick Lachey sporting the every-traditional brand. Men should check out the Nitro style, while woman can get fashionable with the Guiselle style.

Glasses for the Blue Eyed Fashion Fiend
Filed Under Brand Wave, Eyewear Knowledge, Designer Sunglasses, Designer Eyeglasses | 1 Comment
Brown-eyes beauties have it easy when it comes to fashionable frames while the blue-eyes darlings have several things to consider when choosing colorful and fashionable frames. Prada, for example, is a design best suited for brunettes with dark features and high cheek bones. While Prada on a fair skinned person is common, especially in Hollywood where everyone idolizes fashion, it is not recommended. Prada is a dark brand that favors thick lines, bold textures and seemingly daunting shapes. It takes a very strong face to hold Prada shades, and most blondes do not have the features such bold designs require.
For blue eyed babes, the best bet is to show off your peepers with frames that follow your cheekbone line and sit, nearly invisibly, on your face. Brunettes may have it easy, but blondes still have more fun. Here are some fun alternatives to the ‘back in black’ Prada trends that have woefully swept the nation.
Dior sunglasses offer something unique in the fashion world– gradient tinting that isn’t tacky. For blondes, this is the manna from fashion heaven. With light eyes, light hair and light skin, your features demand subtle color and soft lines, not dark and harsh frames. Dior offers thin metal frames, usually very appealing on a blonde, as well as colored, gradient tinting to extenuate your eye color and bring out the highlights in your hair.
Like Dior, D&G offers gradient tinted lenses and lightweight, metal frames. Choose the design and model that fits your cheek and jaw line and looks natural on your face rather than overbearing. Remember that fashion trends are not for everyone, if you are blonde then pass on Prada this season. This year, Prada has proven that too much of a good thing can be bad!

Political Minded Eyewear

With everything in the news about our heroic politicians of late, let’s examine the eyewear that makes a politician great. Ralph Lauren is a favorite among rising politicians because of their professional looking, lightweight and modern designs. But while this may play in the little leagues of the political arena, it could hardly be commanding of respect in the upper echelons.
For those aiming for the top, there are two great routes to go, as exemplified by two opposing American politicians in their recent, and may I say drug out, election. Barack Obama aimed high when shooting for the presidency, and showed his seriousness with serious fashion. Ray Bans were the brand of the democratic election, as Obama swept the newspapers in high fashion. While Ray Ban eyewear has been endorsed by hundreds of celebrities, this may be the highest endorsement yet, and bodes well for any rising politician who hopes to keep in with the people he claims to represent.
Sarah Palin, for the Republican Party vice presidential candidate, no made-to-order eyewear was good enough. Sarah Palin went rogue and had eyewear flown in from the ever-modern Japanese designer, Kazuo Kawasaki. These sharp frames lit the internet with new flame as eager female politicians sought to place online orders.
While other politicians suffer from poor eyesight and need corrective lenses, these are the two that took their weakness and made it a strength and a character identifier. For the aspiring politician nothing is as important as building a recognizable image with the community you hope to represent, and creating of yourself a person with features people can relate to. Find your own designer brand and make it fresh by pepping up your campaign with a little Obama spice.

The Best Comic Eyewear
Filed Under Celebrities & Eyewear, Eyewear Knowledge, Designer Sunglasses | Leave a Comment
For the rising comedian, there are few frames more popular and catchy than Ray Ban Wayfarers. These well-known black frames with prescription lenses are a classic look made popular by Billy Holly. The Blue’s Brothers, a comic duo from yesteryear, brought the Wayfarer into the spotlight as a classy black design making stoic comedy a reality. Modern comedians continue to wear Ray Bans for their iconic appeal, and the design house had issued newer models that are as timeless as the originals. US President Barack Obama even wears Ray Bans these days, as do many Hollywood stars, showing how diverse and worldly the designs have become since their rise to popularity in the music and comic industries.
Dior designs are top in the rapping community where labels like Prada and Versace go largely ignored. These rhyme masters deliver punchy and fun lines through the creative and intricate designs of Dior, which really hit the big time when stars like Lil’ Kim marched on stage in the fresh new frames.
Prada’s eyeglasses are comedy defined. With thick, dark temple bars and square shapes, the sarcastic comedian will not be able to stay away. Most comedians are not fashion followers, but we think these designs are classy, fresh and dark- the way most modern comics like it.
Oliver Peoples eyewear are iconic in their popular designs. They have trademarked the circular frames look that Larry David has popularized through his harsh comic show Curb Your Enthusiasm. While some may pair round eyewear with Harry Potter, Oliver People’s begs to differ- these classy designs belong on a comic’s face.

Michael Jackson’s Eyes
Filed Under Celebrities & Eyewear, Designer Sunglasses | 1 Comment
Despite the drastic cosmetic changes in Michael Jackson’s appearance over the years, his eyes, though hidden behind Ray Bans, remained remarkably original. Born in 1958, Jackson underwent two admitted surgeries to alter his appearance, the rest of the alteration he said was caused by severe skin illnesses and severe weight loss.
Plastic surgeons and doctors agree that he suffered from severe weight loss at times, including anorexia. This helped alter the look and shape of his face significantly. In addition, he was diagnosed with vitiligo and lupus, both of which cause severe irritation to the sun and skin splotching. To even out the skin tone Jackson had to apply several layers of makeup and then add color with lipstick and eyebrow markers. Meanwhile, the two surgeries he did have on weakened skin and in poor health did not take well and the bridge of his nose may have collapsed before being corrected in the late 90s.
Because of his severe light sensitivity, Jackson was fond of wearing sunglasses both indoors and out. His favorite brand was Ray Ban, because they offered extensive coverage and yet remained fashionable. He was photographed at the time of Thriller wearing Ray Ban Wayfarers and more recently in Ray Ban Aviators, which have skyrocketed in popularity. These sunglasses, although fashionable, had the adverse effect of making Jackson look even paler (in contrast with the white skin) and thinner (as the bulk of the glasses made his nose look even smaller). The lightweight frames, however, were perfect for him as he needed to relieve pressure on his nose and yet insure maximum coverage of the eyes- a feat in the world of plastic frames.
