Tojo Hideki (Prime Minister of Japan during WWII) wore Oliver People style round sunglasses very similar to the eyewear worn by Larry David in his hit HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm. While we’re not implying any connection at all, we’re simply pointing out that Tojo’s eyewear was a trademark of his persona and one of the top infamous eyewear designs. You’ll also recognize the round lenses from Harry Potter’s own preference for Oliver People like lenses.

An infamous eyewear enthusiast from cinema is the portrayal by Arnold Schwarzenegger of the Terminator, who was a fan of stealing Ray Ban Wayfarers from random bar clientele and then running off on their supped up motorcycles.

Mark David Chapman (who shot singer and peace activist John Lennon) wears a very Ray-Ban style of gradient eyewear. You might recognize these from shows like Jackass: The Movie, where Johnny Knoxville wore gradient Ray Ban’s with simple gold frames very similar to the ones worn below by the assassin Mark David Chapman. Again, no connection is implied, as even Bono has a pair of Ray –Bans (as does the hottie and fellow peace activist Angelina Jolie).

Of course, one of the more recent villains in eyewear comes from the cinematic world of weekday T.V in the form of the Man in the Horn Rimmed Glasses, AKA, Noah Bennett. This hero/villain kills without mercy or meaning while raising a loving family on the side.

Villians, from T.V, real life, and cinema alike gear themselves in eyewear which they make iconic, though in an infamous way.

For the international backpacker, Burberry is one of the top designer eyewear choices. Travel bikers and outdoor enthusiast alike also love Ray Bans and Oakley. We recommend these top three brands for the outdoor guru with short descriptions and rationalizations.

Burberry eyewear is durable, edgy and totally designer. Backpackers and outdoorsmen prefer Burberry over sport-specific eyewear like Oakley because it remains stylish and chic while effectively blocking out damaging rays. The wrap around style of lens also blocks peripheral glare and water and snow surface reflections. Meanwhile, the diversity in the 2009 collection ensures there is a style for every face shape.

Oakley eyewear is specifically designed for the extreme sportsmen, and has comfort, aerodynamics and fit as their priorities. For those less concerned with fashion and more concerned with performance, Oakley is the way to go. You’ll spot top athletes decked out in Oakley gear, and many a biker (Armstrong included) swears by them. For those traveling in cold or extremely hot climates, you might want to consider Oakley eyewear for extreme sun blockage or goggles for snow or sand storms. In addition, Oakley has recently branched past their extreme sporting focus and have designed a few women’s and men’s casual sunglasses for the 2009 catalogue.

Ray-Bans are ever classic and give off an aura of a clam, collected and peaceful traveler. While every Hollywood star wears Ray Ban’s these days, they used to signify a divergence from designer fashion and towards self actualization and independence. While on the road less travelled you’ll encounter countless backpackers, wanderers and vagabonds with Ray Ban’s proudly resting across their sun-burnt noses. Their lightweight frames are convenient for those with heavy loads while the large lenses do block a great amount of light. Newer designs have been added in 2009 that defy the Aviator and Wayfarer classic looks, check them out.

Everyone in Hollywood knows to equate Jennifer Aniston with three things: Friends, Brad Pitt and Tom Ford’s. She has been photographed multiple times in public in her favorite Tom Ford design ironically called Jennifer. Originally a design by Tom Ford called Whitney, the Jennifer has become popular with many celebrity icons like Rose McGowan, Friends co-star Lisa Kudrow and others.

Aniston, who made it big on Friends as Rachel Green, has been in the media’s crosshairs for her devastating split with actor Brad Pitt, and her ongoing relationship with Vince Vaughn, John Mayer and others. Though she has won a throng of award for her acting skills, many see Aniston as a one-hit-wonder playing a too-rich bimbo on a 90’s television sitcom. She has three films set to release in 2009 which might counter that argument, and was one of the highest paid actresses in 2005. Since her split with Brad Pitt after seven years together, Aniston has focused more on fashion. Having turned 40, she remains stunningly beautiful and fashion-forward, having already invented a hairstyle (The Rachel, from her role on Friends) and been at the center of a controversy about jewelry designs. Her consistency in good, conservative fashion picks has landed her a favorite among endearing young fashion fans.

To get the Jennifer Aniston look, pair of form fitting jeans with a white top, part your hair down the center and don a pair of Tom Ford’s, a brown belt and an oversized but understated bag. Keep your humor firmly about you and your chin held high.

Want to make it big with your guitar?—Then don a pair of Oliver Peoples and hit the road with a three day stubble and torn up jeans. You’ll need to play the part as well as you play your instrument, so create an image of yourself that is unique, fresh and reminiscent of the tunes you so lovingly create.

Think of the accessory that typifies your favorite musician. Probably you have thought of either: eyewear, headwear or tattoos. Let’s go with the first as the most easily recognizable trademark of a large number of successful musical stars.

The Ray Ban
Wayfarer is a smart way to go for an aspiring musician whose tunes are more reminiscent of the legends who have so recently gone before them. Both Elton John, and before him Buddy Holly, were Wayfarer fans. Buddy Holly, however, used the traditional sunglasses frame for his prescription lenses, creating a look that was unique and thus memorable. That style, sometimes called the Buddy Holly, has lingered into present day proving that his image was as important as his music.

Oliver Peoples are a design house that is especially good at creating icon looks. The John Lennon look that is so specific to that artist can be found in variation by Oliver Peoples, and the designs are fresh for the picking for any aspiring front man.

Bono, who has made a name for himself as much from music as from philanthropy, has made his eyewear a changing part of his steady personality. Photographed for TIME Magazine in pink Dior shades, and then in clear blue mysteries a month later, Bono is determined to draw attention to the honesty and passion in his eyes with his semi-translucent eyewear, a trademark look indeed.

Use these ideas as the foundation for your own creativity, and find a way to make your eyewear work for you as an iconic trademark.

Want to know what links four of the world’s sexiest and most competitive Hollywood men to each other- Ray Ban’s.

Recently Hugh Jackman, a native of Australia, was nominated America’s sexiest man. For his role in X-men we were thrilled when Jackman tightened up his abs and donned form-fitting jeans, a black leather jacket and Ray Ban shades. He epitomizes the modern man’s aim- effortless style, charming appeal and rugged good looks.

To get the Jackman look grow a week old stubble, shop for family reunion T-shirts at the Goodwill, pick up a discarded company baseball hat at a random sporting event and then class the whole thing up with a pair of classic Ray Ban Aviators, Dockers shoes and a thousand dollar wrist watch.

Before Jackman there was Pitt. Brad Pitt who also favored Ray Ban Aviators and a devil-may-care attitude. Pitt also wore jeans with holes, shirts with random sayings and the occasional baseball cap. Since meeting his partner Angelina Jolie, Pitt has been bumped off the sexiest man list and has begun to wear shirts that fit properly and shoes without laces, but this does not mean he will toss everything. No, Pitt kept his Ray Ban’s and has been seen wearing them whenever outside the Jolie-Pitt estates.

Matt Damon, who was surprised to learn he was America’s sexiest man, also wears Ray Ban’s, though the Ray Ban 3248 style rather than the Aviators Jackman and Pitt favored.

George Clooney, also a Sexiest Man back in his prime, wore Ray Ban’s in Ocean’s Eleven, where every character (including rival sexiest men Brad Pitt and Matt Damon) were decked out in designer shades throughout the film
